Prof. K. S. Valdiya, an expert in Himalayan Geology passed away in Bengaluru in the afternoon of 29th Sep. 2020. He was unwell since last a few months.
Prof. Valdiya led his team from the front to establish a new building (department) of Geology near Ken Field in NainiTal during 1980s. Padma Sri and Padma Bhushan award winner for his scientific achievements, Khadg Singh was also the acting Vice Chancellor of Kumaun University NainiTal at a few occasions. Originally from Pithoragarh, Valdiya was like a fatherly figure for the people of Kumaon.
We express heartfelt condolences to the family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.
