(Materialistic outlook in ancient India)

Here are  a few Sanskrit shlokas , I came across (referred as that of  Rishi Charvak)

It appears to be  the popular sentiment of those times among the public.
Literally it says

'As long as the person is alive,  s(he) must consume the best possible, as  after the death one can not get the body back'.

Interesting.

Another one through Dillip:

 "Hi Doctor, you, brother of Yam Raj greetings,. Yam only takes away the life but you take AWAY both:  life and the money.'

Third wave of Covid 19

The 3rd wave of Covid19 virus started in Dec 2021 from South Africa. Its sharp 'delta function' type of wave named as Omicron variant of the Covid 19.

As on date (8th Jan 2022), its surge can be seen in India.  The expected peak is some where in middle of Feb in various cities.  Sunday lockdowns and night curfews have returned back.  Partial lockdowns are on the cards.
The Omicron variant is reportedly milder, and does not infect the lungs. However, there is a fear that it can mutate in a more dangerous virus, once it spreads.

We are becoming more careful again, with more COVID-appropriate behaviour.

It is to be noted that India is already 85% vaccinate with one dose, 50% vaccinated with 2nd dose.  Teenagers from 15-17 years are also getting vaccinated from 3rd Jan 2022.  People above 60 years  (Seniour citizen) with comorbidities, can receive 3rd 'precautionary dose' of the vaccine from 10th Jan 2022. Several counties have no vaccines yet, but some people in some countries have already taken 4th dose as well. Thats where the term 'vaccine equity' has originated.

Best wishes and stay safe,

Prem

Motto of IIT Madras and Kumaun University

Nice way o start the new year!
The logo of IIT Madras contains as usual in many logos a piece of Sanskrit "shlok".  There are two instances related as described below:

1. I always wondered what it meant and which book it must have been  referred to?   [About 3 decades back, finally  while graduating from NainiTal, we came to know about the correct meaning of the logo of Kumaun university This is probably adapted from Chapter 4, shloka 33:
[ref:  https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/chapter/4/verse/33/hi]

2. In 2000 when my father in-law visited us at Chennai- he had promptly expressed  that 'this is the 12th shloka of 4th addyaay of Bhagwat Gita.  ' Wow!  Mr. Pandey was well versed with Gita and similarly other religious books of his time.

IIT Madras  logo  (at bottom portion) has this :  सिद्धिर्भवति कर्मजा . You can see it at www.iitm.ac.in.

I see the meaning of this similar to this one:
